Living As An Overcomer

Revelation 12:11, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”

As children of God, we have the right and privilege to live this life on earth as overcomers. Jesus paid the price for us to overcome every work of the enemy. The good news is that whatever you are facing right now or will face in the future, you have been given the power to overcome.

The very definition of this word means that we have prevailed, conquered or triumphed over something or a particular situation. What areas in your life do you need to overcome? Depression, anxiety, lust, fear, hopelessness, financial issues, shame or sickness? We are not called to live in defeat but victory in our mind, body, soul and spirit.

The Bible says in Matthew 28:18 that ALL authority was given to Jesus. And all still means ALL! Satan is good at hiding his limitations. He is so limited in what he can do that he has to tempt you to give up, give in and shrink back. He can’t MAKE you do anything. He can only tempt you. You see we tolerate what Jesus never put up with and then ultimately destroyed when he died and rose again.

Satan is like a junkyard dog that’s attached to a long chain that will try to run after you, growl and bark, try to grab ahold of you and eat you for lunch—but eventually the chain will run out and yank the dog backwards. It can’t come after you any further. Its power was limited. Satan’s power is limited. We just have to remind him of that. We have to learn to push back against his attack and say, “Satan! No farther in Jesus Name!” Wear the enemy out with your prayers, your praise and worship, speaking in tongues, quoting the Word, pleading the blood, etc.

As we read in the opening verse, we overcome the enemy by the blood, our testimony and loving not our lives…even to the death.

Overcoming by the blood: I grew up in a home where my Mom would pray daily over us children, pleading the blood. She would pray, “I plead (apply) the blood of Jesus over my children as they go to school, as they are at school and as they come home.” She was reminding satan that, “The blood of Jesus is against you and you will not touch my children.” And I pray the same way over my family to this day.

Remind the enemy of this. Say, “You will not attack my body, my family, my finances, my marriage, my job, and everything else that Jesus has given me. The blood of Jesus is against you. HANDS OFF!” and “Satan, I remind you that because of the blood, all shame, all condemnation, all accusations from the enemy, all sin, all sickness, all sadness is washed in the blood” There is still power in the blood!

Remember that it’s because of the blood that we have unhindered access to the Father. We can come boldly to the throne of grace to find all the help we need.

Overcoming by the word of our testimony: This is first and foremost the testimony of what Jesus did for me in His death, burial, resurrection and soon return.

It’s also what Jesus did in me. He has turned my life around! As David said in Psalm 18:19, “He delivered me because He delighted in me.” He has brought each one of us out of a horrible pit. He turned our darkness into light. He set us free. He has forgiven us. He has healed us. He has provided for us. He has redeemed us. He has chosen us. This is our testimony and this is how we overcome.

Overcoming by not loving our lives: Jesus is our Divine Priority. Everything we say and do, we do for Him and to please Him. When we live with this kind of heart attitude of abandonment and obedience, there is nothing that we can’t overcome because Jesus is such a part of our lives. By not loving your life you are saying no to all that does not please the Father and yes to those things that please His heart. It’s a life of self-sacrifice, lovingly serving Him every single day. It’s “practicing the presence of God” moment by moment. It’s loving Jesus with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength. When we keep the first commandment first place, we overcome.

Beloved, you ARE an overcomer!
