John 13:23-25, “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. Then, leaning back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, “Lord, who is it?””

I find it fascinating that John had the audacity to lean as he did on Jesus. We can see from all the writings of this Apostle of Love that he lived assured and confident of Jesus’ love for him.

For over three years, John would watch closely as this passionate, miracle working Son of God changed the world. And then there was the heart of Jesus that was so welcoming, so inviting, so loving that John felt courageously comfortable enough to lay back on Jesus at the table. And Jesus received him. Jesus was, is and will always be the personification of love.

Why was John so confident in the love that Jesus had for Him? You see, by “leaning” on Jesus, (whether physically or as his heart yearned for Jesus), John was getting to know who Jesus was. And by getting to know who Jesus was, John found out who he was to Jesus! The one who Jesus loved. Five times in the book of John, he referred to himself as “the one who Jesus loved”. That’s incredible to me. And that kind of heart assurance comes from “leaning” on Jesus.

When we “learn to lean”, not only will we encounter His amazing love but He will share His secrets with us. Jesus has many things He wants to tell you, if you would simply lean in a little closer. Close enough to hear His heartbeat for you, your family and those around you. I’m telling you, He’s waiting right now for you to lean into His heart.

If you want to feel His love. If you want to hear His voice. If you want to encounter the depths of His heart. If you want to know what He thinks and feels about you…

LEAN

So how do I lean? It’s found in John 15. Abide with Jesus as much as you can. Rest in His love. Meditate on His Word. Soak in His presence. Be still and know that He is God.
