Someone once said that the definition of insanity is, “Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.”
Do you feel “stuck” or “stagnate” in your walk with the Lord? So many want to be closer to the Lord and to know Him better but they are not doing anything different than they have been doing and expecting different results—this is “insanity”. It’s a very frustrating place to live.
God has so much more for us to experience in this life. More than we can ever imagine!
Ephesians 3:20, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,”
Speaking with my 14 year old son the other day, (he has aspirations to play Major League Baseball) he said that he just doesn’t want to be a good baseball player, but a great baseball player. So I talked to him about this particular definition of insanity and taught him that if he wants to be a great baseball player, you can’t do the same ole same ole type of practicing, but take it to the next level. He really took this to heart and is living it out.
Later that same day, I thought about my own life and my walk with God with the same principles that I taught my son about baseball. I don’t want to be just like every other Christian. If I want more and more of God in my life, if I want to experience His presence and live daily in His glory, than I must do those things that set myself up for deeper encounters with Him. That may be accomplished through prayer, worship, fasting, the Word, denying self, learning to love, and the list goes on and on. Whatever it takes! And the process and journey is different for each one of us. Honestly, for me, I know what I must do to have a deeper and closer walk with God. How about you?
Now, the problem that I see in increasing measure is Christians that feel stuck in their walk with God are turning to the things of this world for satisfaction and fulfillment rather than leaning in closer to Jesus. They are tired of trying to reach and reach and reach for God and never seem to connect. So they give up and give in. They fill their lives with worldly vices and activities that seem to be answering their hearts cry. But these things will inevitably lead to hearts that are empty and alone.
Friends, the answer to the dissatisfaction and emptiness that we may feel will never come from the things of this world and what it has to offer. Don’t run to the world for your joy, peace, love, etc. Run to Jesus! Run to the One that can change your whole life in a single moment. And if you say, Ryan, I have been trying for years and nothing seems to change. Perhaps you need to make some radical “God” decisions that break you free from that feeling! Since whatever you have been doing has not seemed to work, ask the Lord for supernatural insight on what you need to do different, to encounter His love, presence, glory, blessing, favor, joy and the like.
No more insanity! It will be a new day as you step out of the old way of thinking and living and into the new that God has for you.
