Returning To Simple Devotion

We have complicated Christianity. We have complicated Christianity because our lives are complicated.

Somehow, each one of us needs to avoid yielding to the chaos of this life and return to the simplicity of devotion to Jesus. What does simplicity look like?

Simple devotion is waking up and starting your day with Jesus (Psalm 63:1). It’s worshipping Him, meditating on His Word, His love, His promises, His joy, and everything else that He has made available to those who come to Him as a little child.

Simple devotion is allowing your heart to ascend into, “things above” (Colossians 3:2) throughout the day, staying filled with His presence.

Simple devotion is meditating on your bed at night, reflecting on the goodness of God (Psalm 63:6).

Yes, we pray, we fast, we study, we pray in the Spirit continually (this keeps us in the love of God), we spend time with others, we go to work, we mow the lawn, we do the dishes, we pay our bills, we raise our kids, and we fight the good fight of faith. But in the midst of life, our hearts MUST retreat continuously to simple devotion to the Lord. This will keep our hearts steady, our minds renewed and our spirits soaring in God.

Slow down. Breathe. Rest. Be refreshed. Uncomplicate your life in the grace and love of God. And allow the Lord to deal with all those places within your heart that have been neglected.

“Be still, and know that I am God;” Psalm 46:10
