Catching the Little Foxes

“Catch us the foxes. The little foxes that spoil the vines. For our vines have tender grapes.” Song of Solomon 2:15

“I am vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Those little foxes represent everything in our lives that hinder intimacy between us and Jesus. It could be a myriad of things to be honest. And we have to “catch” them before they “spoil the vine”. Those “foxes” could be the more settle sins like bad attitudes, quick temper, being irritable, gossip, etc. And of course, lust, hate, unforgiveness, pride and the like.

Foxes are said to be cunning, mischievous and shrewd. That sounds like the way sin tries to come and spoil our hearts and minds away from God. Satan was cunning from the very beginning with Eve and he and his tactics have not changed.

We are to live connected to the Vine—Jesus Christ and this is where the flow of intimacy is with every Christian. And it’s in this intimacy where we find the peace of God, the joy of the Lord, the love of the Father and every other good and perfect thing that comes from Him. God has made a way for us to experience this beautiful intimacy throughout the day and not just during our “designated” prayer times and locations! He is Omnipresent. He is every with us.

If we allow the foxes to come in and spoil the vine, it will affect our relationship with Jesus. That doesn’t mean that He loves us less or has forsaken us, but the divine flow from “vine to branch and branch to vine” will not be there. Thank God that He is patient with us, but we have to be quick to repent of all that hinders so we DO NOT hinder the flow of intimacy.

We catch the foxes by saying no to sin and yes to God. The Bible says that if we resist the devil he will flee. Plain and simple. It’s not complicated, it’s a choice. It always comes down to a choice. Our desire for a beautiful, powerful, wonderful, passionate, amazing, joyful, intimate relationship with Jesus must outweigh our propensity to giving in to sin. And the beautiful thing is that God Himself has given us the power to resist sin! We don’t have to go at this alone. We lean on Him in our time of temptation and He delivers us out of each and every one as we yield to His Spirit.

Catch the little foxes, dear one!!!
